Most would agree that we can solve racism with a few straightforward respect tactics, overcome financial loss with distinctive services, get past worker apathy with innovative dividends, and create new zest at work.
So why do we kill brainpower at work instead … when to do so raises our breakneck speed toward lost ground in the global marketplace?
The problem is that we’ve been frontrunners far too long. Used to a place in the winning circle ... we’re stuck in mental ruts. It doesn't need to be that way.
Before you nod and move on … read on to see how human brains can and do work innately against frontrunner nations or organizations.
These results suggest an urgent call for new directions:
1. In spite of the fact that our universities are losing relevancy we continue to lecture as if the marketplace had not shifted directions. Meanwhile drop outs grow and the public purse continues to shrink from lack of innovation.
2. At the same time unprecedented numbers workers tell us they hate their work … we increase cubicle-settings and add to stress that robs brainpower at work.
3. While people are losing jobs, homes, and healthcare - like flash floods break levees … we ignore brainpower that exists to ratchet up the bottom lines.
4. When wars and rumors of war fill our airwaves fewer and fewer benefit from the violence war heaps upon our brainpower for real growth. We've yet to actively embrace that peaceful reward that top competitors enjoy.
5. At the same time overworked staff draw from less and less brainpower for productivity … cranky leaders fire more good help.
The point of this post is not to merely list daily woes that wash into our heads – from local and national losses that sometimes seem out of control. Nor is it to vent about new discoveries that show how the human brain itself fights the change we need most .
The secrets for lasting change lie waiting in the wings of recent discoveries about the amazing capability of the human brain. It’s as simple as the fact that human brains spike or stunt growth daily … and we each have brainpower to bypass those stunting stages!
This post is simply a call to mental arms. A challenge to give your brain and your organization an exhilarating new competitive edge today! It’s also a dare of sorts ... to take the first action step. One that will trigger natural brain chemicals to build momentum for the adventure of growth where you work.

Ellen, I have lived in an area where folks have cheered for an underdog team for years. We love stories of underdogs rising up to beat the champions.
Brainpower is actually how an underdog beats the champ. Here's how... it takes strategies the champs haven't considered, it takes creativity, it requires risk-taking, it takes stamina stemming from healthy nutrition and plenty of sleep.
I fear the frontrunners lose sight of the fact that they must continally be inventors! Also some of thier eating and sleep habits can fall by the wayside. ;-)
