Have you ever seen people spout facts like mountain peaks spill waterfalls? Or have you wondered why facts fail to flow into improved practices at work?
Susana Martinez-Conde, at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix - shows through magnetic imaging … that knowledge of facts activate differen
t areas of the brain – from knowledge of performance skills. How so?
Performances or applications come from the striatum. This area is located next to your brain stem … and it controls movements and rewards.
Facts are processed in the anterior cingulated cortex. This area processes information and controls cognition as well as emotions. It’s also near brain areas believed to be involved in risk and reward.
For many years we’ve been told that transfer isn’t automatic. Now we see why it’s so. We also see why people hear great ideas and fail to engage them at work. In other words … if you expect change … it’s not enough to deliver facts.
Change comes when you teach and facilitate applications and inspire performances associated with facts that lead to change.
Do facts and discoveries lead to quality performances where you work?
