If people learn better in caring communities … ![]()
and they do …
and if business prospers through team building …
which it does …
what part of the team are you?
Here’s a survey to both identify and sharpen interpersonal intelligence that will help you offer hidden and unused talents to teammates. You will have noticed, some people are more skilled interpersonally than others, and yet teams grow new skills together.
Start with a yes or no response to the following 10 items … and watch your skills come alive within any group:
1). In spite of my keenness for quality I share workloads with others in my team.
2). I tend to bring out the best in those around me by affirming their talents.
3). Because I listen hard, I hear where others come from and relate back well.
4). Others see me as a strong team player because they feel validated by me.
5). In a team project, I see excellence only after others contribute along with me.
6). Diplomacy describes me so I rarely take offence, but give my best to groups.
7). I spot segues for more than one mind to work well together on any project.
8). Because I welcome diversity, others would vote me as an open group leader.
9). Rather than opinionated, people view my tone as calm, curious and caring.
10). I laugh at my mistakes and help others through theirs, for excellence sake.
How did you score? If you score "yes," on 8 or more of the above, consider yourself in the top percentiles interpersonally. If not, devise one task for each of your weaker skills identified here, and you are on your way to growing more interpersonal ability which will help you enjoy teams of all shapes and sizes.
For instance, if you tend to take on all the work, or none of it, practice sharing loads, till you feel skilled at collaboration.
Conflict in teams is often more about each of us than most realize, at least the parts we can control. Not always, but often. This is good news because we can work to improve any situation through impressive growth in these few team skills.
Off now to work on a few team building tactics of my own … and by the way … thanks for splashing your multiple team intelligences around the brainbasedbusiness community.
