If strength in a firm lies in its diverse population … then success comes to workers who suspend their own ideas at times … in order to engage others’ perspectives. Have you seen people who identify with workers who differ from the group?
When in the High Arctic for two years … I learned to draw more on my own intrapersonal intelligence to identify with Inuit leaders. It’s much like reflection that rewards talented people … because of their talent not their race.![]()
An interesting benefit from identification with Inuit in the Arctic tundra … was that my own intrapersonal intelligence grew … just as productivity also increased for our entire community.
Would you agree that genuine inclusion … through identification … tends toward growth whenever it exists.
What would it take for your workplace to practice intrapersonal intelligence? You see it in those who identify with others who differ. Inclusion draws on more intrapersonal intelligence than we tend to use at work.
Yet for those who learn skills to include others in meaningful ways … intrapersonal intelligence also adds a new segue to toss more talent into the common pool.
Can you see how inclusion … through the identification that comes from intrapersonal intelligence raises the bottom line at work? It also builds community for cultural harmony with mutual benefits.
How would you inspire peers who struggle because of lack of intrapersonal skills … to engage others who differ?
