Dove Brainpower for Competitive Edge

Care to do your day differently ... like the doves I watched this morning? These two birds stop by daily ... but today they flew with naturalistic intelligence that inspired my day. How so?

The fat little doves connected dots for new dividends ... and so can we.

The pair studied my feeder for smaller birds only … like finches and sparrows … and doves%201.jpgthen created a plan to make it work for them. With perches too small for their bulging little bellies ... it took more than an average birdbrain to do it differently.

First, the brainiac bird flopped into the dish ...  which is there to catch tiny finches fast falling seeds. The other dove looked on for some time with surprise and  interest. The follower bird then  began to bob and peck at Niger seeds with its brainy partner … but only from its safe stance on the deck.

Meanwhile ... the brainier bird swayed in the feeder and cooed with delight … until the follower left its secure stand ... hopped into the tray for a better shot at seeds ... and enjoyed the ride of a lifetime.

Robyn McMaster and Bob Hruzek recently sparked the idea of value that comes from connecting new dots. The As I watched two fat little doves connect dots differently … and dramatize definite advantage over competitor birds… I saw the different-dot-wisdom fly into action.

In response …  I plan to do my day differently. I’m working to background music from Ladysmith Black Mambazo – as their brilliant beats  inspire my next brain based project in the works.

Not as smart as the doves' differences dramatized on a yellow finch feeder today  … but it’s my start. Your turn…?

This is very interesting since this pair of birds ate different food for their species. This must have been quite a site to watch them maneuver!

Animals do some incredible things at times.

I remember watching a large blue jay using his beak to "brush" the seeds out of a feeder too small for him to sit on, then flying down to the ground to feast! Pretty smart bird.

You know Robyn, that fact never entered my mind. Interesting -- I was so aware of the bird feeders being so wrong for them -- and forgot they were also risking a new gourmet dish at the same time. Those two birds rock! Ellen

That blue jay must have learned the trick from squirrels -- who seem to enjoy outsmarting us all - when it comes to clever food stealing! Interestingly - they dislike Niger seed - which is why I now feed smaller birds. There were to many rodents gathering otherwise:-) No wonder people with outside work -- really tend to love their jobs!
