Learning institutes are endlessly reframing what brainy really means. Who’s smart and who’s not where you work?

Some say that IQ makes or breaks genius possibilities …  and is likely fixed at birth. Others stress mental development comes from an ability to learn daily … through observing people ... as well as by setting personal goals for achievement. What do you say?

Growing numbers of researchers agree that to be mentally astute ... is to demonstrate a wide variety of intellectual qualities. How many of the A tbrain.jpgo Z proficiencies below … for instance … describe your brain’s capability?

A. – Aware - Brainy people are aware of others, of limitations and of opportunities.

B. - Becoming – Brainy people constantly become more of who they’d like others to see in them.

C. – Collaborative - Brainy people play to their strengths and draw from other’s talents for mutual benefits.

D. - Diverse - Brainy people see value in others and learn from viewpoints on opposing sides of issue.

E. - Efficient - Brainy people tend to learn new tasks rather than vent about others who lack skills.

F. -  Forgiving - Brainy people forgive others easily and tend to learn from their own mistakes.

G. - Genuine - Brainy people use thoughtful terms to say what they really mean and are taken seriously.

H. – Humorous – Brainy people capitalize on laughter that sparks new neurons for success.

I. - Idea-driven – Brainy people act on ideas that improve their lives and communities.

J. – Judgment-free – Brainy people often withhold negative judgments in favor of building goodwill.

K. – Kind – Brainy people show serotonin kindness to those people who less intelligent people exclude.

L. - Learners – Brainy people are not content with simply hearing – they also learn by doing.

M. - Measurement-conscious – Brainy people know where they stand and track where they progress.

N. – Not-Old-Socks – Brainy people are not content to stick with old.

O. - Observant – Brainy people observe when to take risks and how to live beyond the box.

P. - Progressive – Brainy people would rather try and fail than to get comfortable or stale.

Q. - Questioning – Brainy people reboot their brains daily through questions.

R. - Reflective – Brainy people reflect to jumpstart their performance outcomes.

S. - Solution-minded – Brainy people reframe problems as stepping stones to solutions.

T. – Teachable – Brainy people learn from others and from their own mistakes.

U. – Understanding – Brainy people understand secrets to vitality in themselves and others.

v. - Visionary – Brainy people see winning targets ahead and visualize pathways there.

W. – Welcoming – Brainy people welcome others with the warmth of family.

X. - X-Ray-visioned – Brainy people penetrate the obvious to see beyond the surface of things.

Y. – Youthful – Brainy people maintain youthfulness with awesome mental tricks.

Z. - Zealous – Brainy people are zealous to grow intelligences and create.

Nuff said. I am off to use a few more brain cells already there … and hopefully to grow a new dendrite or two that will reboot my efforts. You?

Now x-ray is not something I would have thought of concerning "brainy." But, Ellen, you are a person who "penetrates the obvious to see beyond the surface of things." In finding a word that begins with X to fit a definition of brainy, you did exactly that! You never cease to amaze me.

Thanks for your kind words, Robyn. The thought of an X-Ray day does sound kind of intriguing though -- you have to admit. Besides - I've seen you leaping to just that challenge on many occasions:-)

I especially like "not-old-socks"! Although "aware" is the one I try to focus on and develop in myself.
