According to Chris Russell … at Secret of the Job Hunt … today is the big start of the job hunting season. Are you looking for a hire or seeing to get hired?
Russell assures us that HR has lots of money to spend at the moment … and the time for nabbing a job is now. Do you believe it? ![]()
Check out Chris’ terrific YouTube job hunting suggestions:
1. Make sure your resume is current. Be sure to prepare an up to date digital resume in addition to a hard copy. You may also wish to prepare a Linked in File – which includes your profile.
2. Use online searches or aggregators such as www.indeed.com or www.simplyhire.com to get your venture started in the right directions for your unique needs.
3. Know your worth by checking out what people with similar skills earn ... and what companies that interest you are willing to pay. Here Chris suggests you start with www.payscale.com
4. I’d like to add another suggestion to help you land the right job for you. Consider your unique mix of intelligences and then look for a workplace that is compatible with your strongest talents – even if that setting differs from workplaces you’ve approached in past.
Also, why not use your intrapersonal intelligence to look inside the workplace you’d enjoy most. Put yourself in HR shows. What would you look for if you were hiring a person who has your skills … for instance?
Oh ... and be sure to name your best assets up front if they align with what an HR person is looking for.
Do you see any other preparations to add to the excellent ideas Chris offers for the first day of 2008's job hunting season?
CareerBuilder may also help ... if you are searching for a new position at the moment. Hopefully you will find that one best employer … on the other side of the equation … who’s looking for just those skills and strengths you offer. Do drop by and let us know what you find ... because we're all rooting for you.
