HR Magazine Goes Brainy!

Check out the February  cover story THE BRAIN AT WORK at HR Magazine to see how more workers are drawing from hidden and unused parts of the brain. Adrienne Fox shows how the brain matters and how brain based business affects workplace behavior. HR Magazine is the nationally recognized journal for The Society for Human Resource Management or SHRM.

In the organization’s own words … SHRM is the world’s largest professional association devoted to human resource management. Our mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most current and comprehensive resources, and to advance the profession by promoting HR’s essential, strategic role. Founded in 1948, SHRM represents more than 225,000 individual members in over 125 countries, and has a network of more than 575 affiliated chapters in the United States, as well as offices in China and India.

I am particularly interested in the role brain based business will play in SHRM’s February cover story – for the same reasons I’m excited to see the brain playing a larger role in modern workplaces, and so was especially grateful to be one of the people interviewed for this wonderfully comprehensive story. Adrienne Fox is a top writer in her field and … it’s no secret that I am all for infusing more of the human brain into current machines for business.

SHRM could be a leader in drawing more brains into business … because they have a knack for drawing together experts from many areas. In upbeat prose … Fox will show how discoveries in psychology and neuroscience are shedding light on why people behave the way they do.

Fox’s cover story  will help firms to better manage workers and workers to better cultivate innovation. With
SHRM’s support …  leaders can use measurable tactics derived from psychological and neuroscientific discoveries … to develop talents better suited to changing landscapes at work. How so?

Few would disagree that there are reasons – within the human brain … for instance … but Fox’s story will show why motivational speakers alone cannot create lasting changes for improvement.  Similarly,
SHRM’s brain based business solutions will help to navigate and capitalize on rather perplexing human behaviors that can stop or start workplace productivity. I’d like to see this initiative trigger a growing avalanche of smart skills that benefit both workplaces and people. Have you seen it happen?

Why do people forget the facts they need most at the moment, for example? Or … how does a few genuine words of encouragement from leaders go a long way to increase profitability at work? Why do some people resist the changes that could benefit them most? These answers matter! Fortunately …
SHRM is taking the helm to help human resource leaders steer brain based strategies into waters where more brains for business will be most needed. Let’s support the SHRM efforts and help more organizations to go brainy along with them! What do you think?
