With recent good news about the brain’s ability to change … why not make add a few mental resolutions to your New Year’s list. Your first day back to work could just reboot the chemistry of your own brain and others in 2008. How so?
Here are 5 new tricks to teach old neurons: ![]()
1. Open a new stream of serotonin where you work through one innovation you suggest and then model. In his new book … Democratizing Innovation … von Hippel explains why users find it profitable to create new products and services for themselves. He shows how it will pay users to reveal their innovations freely for the use of all.
2. Convert cortisol chemicals into fuels that will awaken slumping brains around you. Watch for the next rant … or jump on one negative statement with a fresh idea for change or improvement. Then watch for the positive results in people around you as vents yield to innovations.
3. Increasing your workplace IQ by suggesting constructive alternatives to solve common problems. Start with one simple solution for a common problem. Did you know you can rewire your brain to sprint past common rants that plagued many firms. No question … sometimes you’ll find yourself faced with reptilian brain behavior – yet imagine the satisfaction of slipping in a doable solution – one that’s typically missed during any rant?
4. Reshape time for winning results. Think of what this will bring to a driven staff. H. Jackson Brown, Jr., a New York Times best seller suggests you prepare your mind for better time use. Brown warns: Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.
5. Convert a stressful situation into an adventure that stirs up curiosity. Recent research at the University of Leicester, found that opposite to popular belief, adversity makes its victims more vulnerable to suggestions and lies, and that stress creates even more adversity. Good news is that stress can be reduced. It takes an awareness of the problem first, and a few added laughs along the way.
Why not start 2008 off with a neuron adjustment.
Do things differently! Simply solve your next workplace problem – with the brain in mind. That’s how human brains create new neuron pathways … simply change one routine and your brain with do the rest to rejuvenate old neurons around you.
Worth a try?
