Smoke Gets in Your Brain

Do you remember the Platters crooning … Smoke Get’s in Your Eyes … or am I simply aging myself here?

Either way … you'd likely enjoy YouTube's version. It seems that secondhand smoke gets into more Pr-Smoke.gifthan just your eyes, though.  That die-hard smoker who still lights up in the workplace ... also affects your brain adversely, according to a new study.

It seems that researchers at Temple University found that teens exposed to secondary hand smoke in enclosed buildings – failed Standardized tests 30% more than their peers without smoke exposure. Does it happen where you work?

Mounting evidence suggests that smoke affects cognitive development – and so it only makes sense that it can also lower a person’s problem solving or decision making capabilities as well. What do you think?

My dad was a 3 pack a day smoker when I was growing up. I can remember how my eyes stung when we went on Sunday drives. Ooooeee, who knows what damage was done...

But what I do know is that when Dad was in the Vets hospital as an older man with emphysema and he had to have oxygen all the time, he told each one of us kids he was very happy none of us smoked. He began when he was given packs of cigarettes when in the service. Because it was so addictive he had a very strong habit. But even then he found the will to give it up and did not smoke for the last 15 years of his life.

What an amazing story -- thanks Robyn - cause it illustrates the post so well. No cell loss in your brain though -- with lots to spare:-) Thanks for stopping by!

My father had a serious habit before, too. Every time he smoked, I had to suffer! But finally he found smoking was bad for his health. So he made up his mind to give it up. He has a strong will, at last he gave it up. He does not smoke now. I have to say those people who smoke should not smoke from now on. With the guide of the book, I think, it will be much easier to give it up. A book “Easy Way to Stop Smoking” seems very popular. You may want to have a look:
