In the last two days I’ve had the honor of working with and learning from two exceptional leaders in my city. Both had me curious about the wonder of progress!
I could tell you far more about the amazing flights of Don Milton at Don Milton Enterprises, and Pam Smith at the University of Rochester. But I won't.
Instead, I’d rather show why these two transformational leaders remain rare in most organizations. Why so?
We’ve all met leaders headed in the opposite direction of transformation, through:
1. Control … Lasting change or improvements rarely come to pe
ople who demand control through micromanaging people they lead.
2. Favoritism … Alternative talents tend to get lost in the mix when one person or one group is preferred over others.
3. Know-it-all … Transformational visionaries … stand poles away from know-it alls who spend energy and ability selling self-proclaimed superiority rather than learn from those they lead.
4. Unsociable … Passion for other change-agents’ innovative ideas goes silent in the company of non-charismatic leaders who fail to draw out or value people differences.
5. Bully … The kind of trust that builds healthy revolutions … suddenly takes a steep spiral downward when bullies push themselves to the front or lock others into mental prisons.
Have you met any leaders lately like Don Milton or Pam Smith … who transform your workplace? We’d love to hear what makes them fly ….
