Tonight I heard Dr. Moira Gunn speak at Barnes and Nobles about her book, Welcome to Biotech Nation, and since biotech is not really my field … I felt a bit like Charlie Brown.
The cartoon character described his presence among more intelligent classmates as significant – since his being there helped the top two thirds of the class to feel good about
themselves….
It could have been that way …
Except that Moira created a magical pathway between her science-technology acumen … and my own love for tossing around creative ideas that impact our worlds in positive ways. I’d read parts of her book and so anticipated the innovations we heard.
Particularly intriguing was Moira Gunn’s fog free language that lifted science out of it’s stuffy cocoons and set it free to challenge ethical and life-changing human dilemmas.
Moira walks through many of her stories along with players she describes – such as Dr. Chakrabarty – who said … “Patents are only valuable when you make innovations.” Moira’s book helps readers to adjust in ways that will welcome more innovative biotech products into the marketplace.
Moira is also a portrait of her opening statement in chapter twelve… “Some people walk through the door, and you just know they’re good news.” In Moira’s case that cutting edge news comes from the biotech adventures she lives and learns daily.
For instance … one third of the world economy relates to biotech … we can expect to live from 10 to 30 years longer than the generation before us … retirement age is already closer to 76 … and increasingly complex inter-generational issues require our attention. ![]()
She’s interviewed 3000 experts in the field and stories from many of these make up her interesting behind the scenes look at amazing science breakthroughs. She also shows scorching facts about US wars that robs research dollars and talent weekly in our country!
Moira transforms her unique experiences as NASA scientist and engineer … as NPR host on the weekly shows … Tech nation and Bio Tech Nation … and as a patented software expert in Nutrition Science.
On Tuesday, July 10th … well respected host Bob Smith will interview Moira Gunn on 1370 Connection, and this talk will be streamed live at WXXI. There’s still time for a ringside seat at Moira Gunn’s exceptional biotech story. Be sure to drop back in and let us know what you think, though.
