It amazes me that people who hold mind-bending ideas sometimes fail to see any practical solutions that add to job satisfaction and increased productivity. Similarly, other people may show a penchant for creative solutions … yet they tell you work bores them and leaves them dry daily. Do you know them?
In case you’re wondering by the way … it’s not just me … who noticed this trend.
Studies done by UCLA’s Higher Education Research Institute show more than 260,000 full time college freshman reported boredom, drudgery and disengagement in their classes. More people than that tell you they hate going to work lately because of mundane routines that rob their sense of vision or creativity. What’s going on?
Why would progressive colleges promote boredom through lectures that work against the brain? Similarly … why would business leaders promote meetings and committees that leave workers feeling brain dead.
Then there’s the whole idea of boredom itself - Oscar Wilde may have changed his words had he known surprising new facts that suggest that boredom is actually a choice. What would Oscar Wilde say about your workplace?
