Australia Slows Brain Drain with Synchroton Investment

What does your firm or area do to keep talented and creative people? US Census Bureau findings show brain drain as a problem in many states. And it’s happening in other once vibrant nations too.

Check out how creative scientists in Australia are fighting back.  How so?
synchrotron.jpg
The construction of Australia's first synchrotron at Monash is considered to be the most significant scientific infrastructure investment made in Australia for decades.

Australia found an innovative niche for synchrotron that will help reverse 'brain drain' Recently,  scientists in Melbourne opened Australia's first synchrotron, a move that is expected to keep the country on the cusp  of research for decades to come.

Unveiled in Melbourne today, this $220 million machine spreads to football field size and circulates electrons traveling near speeds of light. One second sees them travel equivalents of seven times round the world.

Read details at Monash University research site. This amazing synchrotron produces intense beams of light, about a million times brighter than the sun, and zoomed in for use in experiments.

Because of their investment  scientists now observe atoms, cells and molecules as they behave and arranged themselves, so that researchers can improve or use them in new ways. The beams are also said to create X-rays, microwaves and gamma rays that can be used in a huge range of scientific medical and industrial experiments. Australia sees a huge reverse in recent "brain drain" and are now attracting scientists from other areas to help move their investment into its next stages.

What investment are you making and how are your talents helping to tackle the challenges of a new work order?
