Problems at Work Solved by News about the Brain

What new facts about the human brain could change your workplace? Do people where you work subscribe more to traditions or to scientific discoveries about the human brain?

For instance ….

1. Information delivered by one person equals material learned by another. In reality … Lecture work against the human brain.

2. Multi-tasking can be learned and it’s better to handle two things at a time than one. In reality … Multi-tasking bottlenecks your brain.

3. Change is often too difficult to achieve. In reality … Your brain is hardwired for renewal.

4. Venting is good for people when they feel frustrated. In reality … To vent is often to prevent your own well-being.

5. Tone problems are often evident when they appear. In reality … Tone can become a silent killer when stress  masks as diligence.

Any problems where you work that news about the human brain could help to solve?

That is so true regarding multitasking. There is always a negative effect if we try to do things faster.
It's true that some are able to do several tasks at the same time, but the amount of effort they exert is also great making them more focused by less accurate.

Alan, you are so right and yet interestingly leaders thought it could bring more profitability and get more from workers. It seems to me that if we start from the premise of brain capabilities we'd be able to create a better direction. What do you think?

I think multitasking is a process that needs practice if ever someone wants to take advantage of its benefits. Otherwise, it would be useless to do so because of the focus we need in order to do it properly.

Great post. I just linked to it in my weekly take on the business blogs (http://blog.threestarleadership.com/2007/06/27/62707-midweek-look-at-the-business-blogs.aspx). In this issue I also mention another wonderful take on multi-tasking by Carmine Coyote on the Slow Leadership blog. Here's the link for that.
