Top Ten Tips to Unplug Cynicism Where You Work

Here are 10 Tips to unplug cynicism that tends to clog most under-producing workplaces.

If any of the ten work for your setting ... why not build new neuron pathways that improve productivity where you work. How so?

You’ll release brainpower for growth well beyond the cynic’s brain drain when you:

1. Ask people compelling questions on  a survey to determine the organizational strengths they see ... and then reward the best suggested approaches to build on  strengths that people identify.

2. Draw people into the firm’s single most significant vision – so that they feel a part of a noble cause. The human brain jettisons forward with a clear target or vision in sight.

3. Run from negative people – so that you avoid spreading the chemical cortisol into your own brain and others since that hormone hampers innovation at work.

4. Avoid humor that might be misconstrued. If unsure, tell the joke to a person you respect before repeating it to others at work. In other words, ask if it’s appropriate ahead.

5. Draw contributions and insights  from people’s multiple intelligences and ask others how their unique capabilities could enhance a key organizational project.

6. Encourage differences and suggest ways to cultivate more intrapersonal intelligence that rewires the brain for more diversity.

7. Reward solutions and leave your problem at home – unless there’s a solution. The opposite of cynicism is genuine solutions to problems encountered at work.

8. Let down your guard with those around you – and stick a neuron in your head and laugh.

9. Don’t let stress shrink your brain. Instead cultivate a serotonin approach to even your busy days.

10. Survey brainpower in your workplace and share the group scores for a discussion on how to increase brainpower and decrease cynicism at work.

It’s not that hard when you take it a step at a time, and the good news is that when brains leaps into gear – cynicism takes a nosedive in response.

By the way – you likely cannot change the cynic – yet you can improve the firm’s tone -  so that cynicism is no longer welcomed where you work. Not bad for a start….
