Top 5 Ingredients for a Healthy Brain - and Where to Find Them

You might be surprised to learn that the top five fuels for a healthy brain are also fun and fairly popular foods. When you hear what they do  you’ll want to know where these five are found.

1. Flavonals - fuel your brain by dilating your arteries and improving your blood flow. Dark chocolate is the best source, and taken in moderation – you can actually ward off age related diseases such as dementia. Popular source? Dark chocolate which work wonderbrainsunfruit2.gifs when taken in moderation.

2. Anthocyanins – help to slow or even reverse mental problems associated with age. It also helps motor agility. Popular source? Blueberries, which not only taste good to the mouth but offer benefits to the brain.

3.Anti-oxidants -  help to improve memory, balance emotions and create more well-being.  Popular source? Green tea, which is found to help improve memory as well as to offset age related memory loss.

4. Omega-3 fatty acids – Researchers tell us that children born to women who eat higher doses significantly raise their IQ while in the womb. Brain health from fatty acids includes memory and concentration, as well as communication, social adjustment,  and interpersonal acumen. Popular source? Salmon, tuna and walnuts.

5. H2O - Since  brain  tissue is 85% water it should not surprise us that we need more. It does surprise people that water acts as a fuel for well-being, even temperment, and higher focus, though. Dr. F Balmanghelidj found that water is a powerful nutrient that generates energy. That's good news if you consider the price tag or side effects of  many drugs by comparison…. Popular source? Plain water. Most other liquids cannot substitute -- and yet fruit juices - without added sugar,  provide a viable alternative for those who dislike water.

What do you plan for dinner today that boosts how you’ll think and remember tomorrow?

I am loving this blog. In the last year I've started learning more about brain function and brain health due to two reasons. One is due to learning about a new chocolate that retains all the antioxidants, flavonals, anthocyanins from blueberries and acai berries, catechins and epicatechins and Omega-3 fatty acids. Specially processed it is the dark chocolate to go for to receive maximum benefits. The other reason is that my niece was diagnosed in Feb. with MS. I knew virtually nothing about this disease before and have tried to help my niece in learning about healthy eating leading to a more healthy brain. The chocolate I found is Xocai. If you haven't heard of it before you can look at it at www.myfitchocolate.com. If you have any scientific or medical questions about it you can ask our advisor, Dr. Steve Warren, at www.mydrchocolate.com. It's nice to find informative blogs like yours. Thanks.
