Through the stories and exchanges between researchers and patients readers get an insider's view of implanted electrodes. Increasingly people feel closer to this electricity that promises to restore operation to body parts weakened by nerve damage. ![]()
Finally the story is out – and Victor Chase uses his science and technology talents to detail researchers efforts to implant neural prostheses. Clearly this progress combines the best from both research and technology innovations as Chase described hearing and movement restored to people with nerve damage.
The book is clearly technical at times but how else could you describe electrochemical nerve impulses that pass over injured sites in ways that stimulate nerves directly through electrodes. You read of miracles in cochlear implants that restore auditory nerve, and in implanted electrodes that stimulate muscles, in the hands and arms so that patients regain movement.
We have a way to go ... no question. Yet. we’ve been following ongoing progress here at Brain Based Business, because it is nothing short of miraculous. In fact, this book reminds us of the resilience of the human brain to receive help to improve its operation, even after nerves have been shattered. What do you think?
