Meme Where Snapping Turtles Devour the Frogs

Over at Turtles Challenge Us to Reach Goals  I learned that Turtles speed along at 10-12 mph in water or 3-4 mph on land and that I was challenged to speed along with one toward a new goal! Or at least one that's newly named. Ok, that takes a bit of new thinking - and a few sharper turns in the road than normal - but I accept the challenge.

Bob Glaza tagged Robyn McMaster for the Turtle Meme, and then Robyn tagged me. Thanks Robyn for helping me to avoid Hebbian ruts by looking at things a bit differently through this different challenge.

Dr. McMaster pointed out that snapping turtles devour frogs … I’m still trying to figure out how that fact fits my tag though. I do know that in response to the tpfrog.jpgurtle meme – Robyn inspired readers with goals she plans to hit  and I say we hold her to these! As for goals at the Brain Based Business Center today ...

My goal is only one – really -  decided recently to add an MD to my PhD. I'd hoped to convert more medical facts and  cognitive good news about the human brain, into doable tactics so regular folks can benefit from both sides.

Robyn points out a unique fact about turtles... many are listed as an endangered species. She adds that for turtles to remain in the race, they need help and encouragement. Work for me…. In fact it all fits but the frog part.

Here are the rules - write your post and refer back to this one. Tag one, two, three, five, ten - number doesn't matter - members of your community. Tell them they are tagged. Then copy the list of those already tagged to the end of your post. I have no idea how it will work but lets see if turtles move :)

Folks already tagged were: Cord Robyn Cam Sandy Jodee Ben David Liz David Matthew Robert Tully Karin Bob

Robyn tagged … Bob Hruzek Anna Farmery GL Hoffman Cody Mckibben Ellen Weber, and I plan to add to the turtle meme … Cam Beck, Ann Michael, Tom Vander Well, The Neurophilosopher, Steve Higgins.

If I forgot your name and you’re ready to nail a goal – count yourself in - and go for the next turtle meme with gusto. Be careful not to devour the frogs though. In fact my meme may just have frogs winning over turtles....

Ellen, you have never been a turtle. Anyone who knows you realizes you move quickly!

And the best part is that you shock and surprise as no one else can. A couple of days ago you threw me when you told me you were thinking of pursuing an MD. And my reaction is, "Go for it with gusto!"

You encouraged me to get a PhD. And I'm the first to cheer you on your way to an MD!

Hey, thanks Robyn -- wow -- that support was sure fast in coming. It's an exciting era of the human brain and good news is popping up all over! There's been lots of good news spilled at this site -- so it's fun to splash a bit more:-) Appreciate the encouragement!

Hey, Ellen, I say it's never too late! I started my first degree... and finished it almost exactly 20 years later, then went on for a Master's and Doctorate within seven more.

Set your sights high and be ready - you never know when an opportunity might present itself!

Thanks Robert, wow - bravo - you inspire us all! I love your motto -- because it adds new zip to the meaning of lifelong learning! So glad you stopped by...

Ellen -

I'm so impressed! I work a great deal in the medical publishing and information management field. I have often thought of getting an MD - but keep getting stuck in the cost/benefit analysis! Go for it (at whatever pace you can muster)!

Ann

Thanks for your kind words, Ann. Hope you keep the dream alive until it runs its course - or changes tributaries.... Think of it -- we could compare notes:-) What a blast - so much has changed.

I always wondered the difference between MD and PhD, Ellen :) - teasing :). Go for IT!!! My first degree in Painting and then - 30 years later - a Masters in Organizational Leadership :) Thanks for playing the turtle meme remembering always - meme rules are made to be broken. Nice catch on Robyn's observation that many turtles are endangered needing encouragement and help :) - thank you again!

Thanks Bob -- what fine encouragement! You practice the stuff Robyn valued in words here! Paiting and Leadership degrees go together for a fun combo! I'd like to study art oneday -- just for my own sake - not because I am talented:-) My daughter is a very good artist though:-)What lead you from one to the other?

Mostly I got hungry, Ellen :) - thank you for asking. Like most stories, there are various twists and turns along the way. Oddly (or not), a lot of what I learned studying art translates into studying leadership. The biggest thing, I feel, is the willingness to take risks. Easier said than done but similar to the turtle sticking its neck out - usually worth it :)

Thanks Bob -- what a cool metaphor for sticking one's neck out - along with a reminder that risks at times get stomped on - along the way:-)

Now of coarse I am curious about the similarities you speak of between art and leading. Now there is a blog many would enjoy:-) Perhaps you've already written one though:-)
