Don Imus is a Mere Tip of Hidden Iceberg

There’s an interesting debate about Don Imus over at Know More Media where Kimberlee Morrison and Tanya Payne make excellent points about an underlying race and sexist problem. I agree.

Know More Media and countless others' concerns about this story ... shows a larger problem we’ve cultivated and grown.  The bigger part of this dangerous berg is based on concern for all humanity. How so?

We undermine collective intelligence for respect or goodwill through 4 deceptions

1. We pretend that political correctness holds answers
2. We forget that positives win deals with mutual benefits

3. We fail to exchange discrimination with plans for real equity
4. We tend to make light of tone’s toxins that poison human brains

If we look at the deeper berg, the furror raised by the Don Imus show could help us to begin build a better world - and if so - let's look at even more than the peak of the problem.

What do you think?

Do on to others as you would have them do on to you - is the golden rule. We are taught to respect our elders and Imus let down these lovely young women by referring to them as ho.These students at a young age represent their unversity and are staying out of trouble. They have had their purity put on trial by a fool. That is the saddest part of all this. I hope when they meet with Imus they bring their fathers with them. Let Imus explain to black fathers that he is a good man.

Jim, while I agree with your assessment and see the saddness and unfairness of this problem -- I also see that it is far bigger than Imus.

It is also related to the human brain and how we wire for equity or ignorance. It relates to the basal ganglia and that wires nightly for routines - based on what we do the prior day.

When we use the tone on Imus show - we soon begin to accept that because we've wired the brain to accept it. To rewire is to act for equity and fairness and peace. It's what I see that Martin Luther King tried to teach - and I see it at your site too Jim. Thanks!

What’s the link between leaders ... bullies ... and free speech, where you work? Imus got away with intimidation of vulnerable people he bullied … because leaders let it happen … at least until the public threatened action agai... [Read More]
