Whether you’re learning new technology, or simply learning a new approach to track progress or relate to others at work, it’s a good idea to share wit and wisdom with somebody.
Unfortunately, most people mistakenly wait until they master new ideas before they share them. Not so with successful leaders ... who share learning that inspires others ... and speeds up mastery for themselves.
Did you know that your brain actually retains 90 percent of what you learn... simply because you teach somebody else at the same time you learn yourself?
This chart below… from National Training Institute … 1999 says it better than I do. Check out how little you retain in any lecture - compared to what you teach somebody else - at the same time you learn yourself.
If you believe the research on this one, you’ll also want to ask.
1. Do you run from lectures that work against the human brain?
2. How can you teach somebody somewhere one new thing you learned today?
Nobody to enlighten with your next gem? Why not teach the dog? Your canine will love the attention … and at the same time you’ll benefit from the brain based process for retaining new facts or skills. What do you think?
