Today, I caught Howard Gardner’s picture of the ethical mind, in an article named the same in this month’s Harvard Business Review. Because I know Howard I was especially intrigued – he lives what he writes.
The full feature's worth a read - Howard starts their conversation with the words … ![]()
”It’s not enough to espouse high standards. To live up to them – and help others do the same – requires an ethical cast of mind that lets you practice your principles consistently."
Dr. Gardner sees the current time, as a era for business leaders to repair relations with customers and employees, and a time for employees to step up to the ethical plate. Is that happening where you work?
Probing to the heart of this conversation … Howard said, “A person with an ethical mind asks, “If all workers in my profession did what I do, what would the world be like?” How about if we change the word “worker” to “blogger?” What do you think?
Finally Howard lays it on the ethical line…”If you are not prepared to be fired for what you believe in, then you are not a worker, let alone a professional. You are a slave.” These words challenge me to hold issues up to the rainbow more – to ensure I can see when I am doing the right thing. You?

Ellen, Howard Gardner's not afraid to tell it like it is. Many folks mindlessly clock in from 9-5 without realizing they're in slavery. This quote is powerful, …”If you are not prepared to be fired for what you believe in, then you are not a worker, let alone a professional. You are a slave.” Thanks for sharing.
