Changing the World from Ireland on St. Patrick's Day

Liz Strauss’ challenge today to change the world -  lit a few cinders in my thoughts.

Today’s St Patrick’s Day and I just returned from a month in Ireland, where I learned so much that could change our world. Change%2520the%2520World%2520mini.jpg

Thanks to Liz' cool invite, I’ll share a few of the brain based ideas that came home in the luggage within my mind. Thanks Liz for the challenge to unpack these gems on St. Pattie’s Day! And thanks Sandy for the great image to inspire us all for change that rejuvenates!

I’ll share 5 gems I garnered in Ireland lately - that can change the world from a brain based perspective, in my little corner of its wonder:

1.  DSCF0167.JPG

Relaxing over a hot toddy after a great game, with fellow golfers at the Faithlegg Country Club in Waterford. We change the world by finding it in new ways and from friends who bring  different cultures into the world we know.

2. DSCF0149.JPG

The world changes when we view its nuances and wonder, from angles like those I spotted in Kilkenny at the castle in the cool of the evening.

3. DSCF0207.JPG

We change the world when we learn from and laugh with the young. Jimmy, a fine young Irish lad reminded me of the joy of chess again, after I’d put the game away for years due to my busy schedule here at the MITA Brain Based Center. I beat him - but he gave me a run for my money, and threatened a rematch when I return in June. Go Jimmy go!

4. DSCF0199.JPG

We change the world through the laughter that comes by learning together with Irish leaders - in brain based ways – where talents spill over and solutions fly faster than we could harness and try them out.

5. DSCF0145.JPG

We changed the world in Cork when Robyn and I paused over lunch together to reflect on the wonder of Ireland, thank God for Irish leaders we worked with, rebooted our brains for a final flight,  and pooled together the pot o' gold Irish professionals abroad had offered us, about life and leading. It was more than we taught them – and we’ll return in June to teach leaders and learn from them again - for further change – the brain based way!

HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY as we run today with unique  lessons the Irish teach and pass out shamrocks to others because we were there! Thanks Liz for the chance to pull together parts of the magic that go with change that came from Ireland!

Your turn ....

Oh Ellen,
That was wonderful! I'm filled with yearning. :)

Ellen, I spent 10 days in Ireland, 6 days in Dublin and 4 days in Killarney. We enjoyed it.My wife had me shopping in Killarney and when she went to the Irish version of every thing for a dollar, I snuck into a pub and dranked brew and shots of Black Bush, I also sang danny boy. After a hour or so my better half figured out where I might be. She did not care to stay

Meet you at the castle for tea, Liz! :-)

Jim, that is such a funny story -- thanks for sharing! The Irish love their pubs - and these are so different from pubs anywhere else. In fact - they really are where people meet and chat and laught about silly and also deep things.

You really sang Danny Boy - rather than shop in Ireland:-) ?
