My friend, Tom Vander Well, writes a blog called QAQnA … and I often visit Tom’s site for even more than cool stories, ideas, and answers…
Fact is, Tom’s not just a smart guy, and a fine leader – he’s also an excellent writer. So I was thrilled today to read his story left at my last blog … Who Parks Up Front?
Tom said… “You and Seth hit the nail on the head with this one, Ellen."
Thanks for the kind words, Tom.
He added… “It recalls an interesting story of legend within our group...”
You’ll get a kick out of Tom’s parking lot story – I did….![]()
“Years ago, our group's founder arrived at a client's office for a meeting.
We had a very long term relationship with this client and someone from our
group was on-site at their office on a daily basis.
Our founder and CEO parked "up front" in a visitors spot, and began to get our of his car. It just so happened that one of the client's Sr. VPs was walking by at that very moment. The VP looked at Mr. Wenger and said, "So, you think you're a visitor, huh?"
That's all he had to say. From that day on the visitor spots were
off-limits. We parked at the back of the lot like any other employee.”
Another thing I’ve loved at Tom’s site is the amazing openness to learn and change and grow! So I was not surprised by Tom’s words...
“Your post was a good reminder to me. I have to admit that my own personal parking habits have slipped. What the heck - the exercise will do me good.”
Thanks for jumping into Tom to remind us to … observe … change improve and to share stories! You’ve inspired our day.
Anybody else out there with a parking lot story?
