$1.5 Million Dollar Look at Daytime Sleepiness

What would you invent if you received $1.5 million to create a new advance to help people think, learn and succeed more? According to a news release from Yale School of Medicine,  researchers there will study neurons that influence narcolepsy, or daytime sleepiness.

They are interested in what causes cognitive arousal, so that they can see what causes it to go down for some. In particular they are interested in neurons that produce peptide hypocretin.

“The activity of these hypocretin cells is important for enhancing cognitive arousal and resisting sleep, and they may also play a role in anxiety and body weight regulation,” said principal investigator, Anthony van den Pol,  neurosurgery professor.

This study will examine natural neuroactive chemicals – as well as look to develop human drugs that excite neurons and keep people awake during the day and allow them to sleep at night.  What do you think?

People who cannot sleep at night becomes sleepy at daytime. The body and the mind needs to regain the hours of lost sleep. I sneak to my room in the afternoon and had my nap. People who snore in their sleep also lacks the necessary rest at night. Lack of oxygen in the brain makes a person sleepy. Too much air in the stomach can also affect the brain function. The body needs 8 to 10 hrs of sleep. Sleeping during office hours can be a sign that people at work lacks motivation and tends to be lazy.

The best sleep is the one you get between the hours 10pm and 2am.. If you skip nights.. It will be very hard to recover them.. For that amount of money.. the scientists will surely find the cure, that should have been found a long time ago..
