Are You a Serotonin Communicator?

Look around you where you work and you’ll spot a few serotonin communicators.  They’re the gurus who tend to move themselves and others forward through  brilliant exchanges where they count most.

Now look back over your day…. What positives  would others say about your communication when challenges strike? When something works against your plans do you find innovative solutions? When somebody  lets you down, do you arrange a lunch to understand their views?  business_intelligence_foto.jpg

Or do you arrive at communication challenges -  an hour late and a dollar short?

Research tells us that what we do and how we apply effective communication tactics, will rewire our brains for improved use of that acumen on the following day. The key is DO – because the brain reboots favorably in response to what we actually do well.

Most people can manage a smile and a few thoughtful words when things are going great. Yet great communicators – people in tune with the interpersonal, linguistic and intrapersonal intelligences – show what they’ve got when the chips are down.

Here are tips to add Serotonin to fuel to your brain and communication.

1. Ratchet up your moods by breathing in brewed coffee beans or a vanilla candle
2. Bop to your favorite CD or radio station on the way to work
3. Laugh at just about everything – especially at yourself
4. See art as the artist sees it and let it teach you a new approach
5. Buy serotonin food – like trail mix - and share it with co-workers
6. Walk with a person you’d like to get to know more
7. Ask a respected leader’s advice on a problem and then apply that advice
8. Encourage a younger, less confident worker
9. Dance, move or play your favorite sport a few times this week
10. Tell a story about a co-worker’s success at the next staff meeting

Do any one of these and watch for results! Serotonin is your brain’s success hormone, and it’s increased by the tips listed here. This amazing chemical can be yours -- to fuel solutions to problems you encounter... bust through mental barriers... and oil your multiple intelligences when you need them most.

Serotonin energizes your brain so that you become more of the person you’d like others to see in you. Release a healthier shot in your brain today, simply by trying a tip or two from the list … then enjoy brain chemicals that flow for more favor at work.

That’s because synapses from serotonin communication bring brilliant results to you and your organization, when one guru communicates along it’s neuron pathway. What do you think?

I always feel that my best communication comes when I am in my zone of strengths. I feel that serotonin levels must drop when you feel less confident in what you are trying to achieve. I think that is why I always try to put my self in a situation of achievement.

Jim, what a great idea for all of us to try -- because you have the support of research for this practice. Thanks for dropping by and for the great idea. Not always easy to attain -- but mostly rewarding for those who can find a way to do it!
