While organized people who simply show up tend to get better results than others who lack these qualities, there’s far more to a person’s business success story. That leads me to another myth … related to self-discipline … that impacts our 2007 predictions.
Myth 3: “Self-disciplined people do not fail as much as I seemed to fail in the past year.”
Reality: Self-disciplined people get tired or sick at times just like the rest of us. They fail too. Successful outcomes are more connected to chemicals called neurotransmitters seep through clefts in our brains and convert to electrical impulses, than to the hard work of self-discipline.
This electrical and chemical activity effects our emotions and impacts learning. They can also be altered in a variety of ways, including relaxation techniques or scents such as those found in vanilla candles which increase serotonin, or laughter which adds positive enzymes.
Do you make use of skills for self-discipline, calm or laughter at work?
