What are your experiences related to harder work for better outcomes? An interesting mental myth links harder work and more success in ways that may surprise you.
Reality: Some of the ways we work against rather than with our brains come from the fact that we work harder and longer and sleep less.
Sleep affects our mental progress since our brains rewire completely each day as we sleep. Rewiring is based on the previous day’s activity and relies on adequate amounts of deep sleep each night. So while unsuccessful people often work longer and harder, smart people benefit more from consistent sleep than from longer work hours.
Not that hard work is shunned by successful people. Just the opposite, in fact, for those who bust the barriers created by myths surrounding hard work and successful outcomes.
On this note, people did work harder … when they felt they were appreciated according to researcher David Jones from Benedictine University who discovered that people who felt valued by bosses looked for different jobs 52 percent of the time.
