Interestingly, in a study of business school graduates, researchers Fallon, Frost and others, found that conscientiousness was at least 5 times more likely to predict supervisor satisfaction, than was creativity or intelligence. That leads us to another mental myth that can limit success in 2007.
Myth 5: “I’m more the creative type, and I tend to wing things as I go.”
Reality: Intelligence is linked to creating detailed expectations which lead to checklists, or carefully crafted directions, that prevent sloppy results.
Creativity and careful expectations partner well to increase our possibilities for success and both come through learned strategies. These two are not mutually exclusive, nor does either one preclude the other. People who sustain success tell us that they tend to organize and plan for successful results.
Many highly creative people work hard to learn organization strategies, just as organized and conscientious people can learn to create.
