An Interview Tonight on the Cranky Middle Manager's Podcast

Tonight I have the privilege of being interviewed on Wayne Turmel’s Podcast, The Cranky Middle Manager Show. In Turmel’s own words, “The Cranky Middle Manager is an irreverent but informative look at the leaders and thinkers trying to make the job of middle management that much easier.”

I had a choice of phone or Skype and I choice the phone, to keep some common landscape around me from shifting grounds for the 35 minute conversation.

Cranky%20Middle%20Manager%20Show.jpgThe goal of this interview is to discover how managers can get the most from their intellectual resources, and, judging from the amazing interviews and leaders and talks on that show already, it was bound to be fun.

A good deal of my excitement came from the honor of an exchange with an intelligent leader like Wayne Turnel, about intelligence itself! Equally though, I am often intrigued with the interesting exchanges the internet and especially Podcasts like this one opens to leaders.

Communication, reaches into our interpersonal, linguistic and intrapersonal intelligences and it also reaches out to many kinds of thinkers, and when we’re open it comes back in ideas, research and new approaches to solve old problems.

Thoughts of the Cranky Manager Show also bring to mind your  generosity too, especially through the excellent communication we’ve shared in this Brain Based Business circle. Thanks!

Tell us what you think of the interview on a Podcast program at the Cranky Middle Manager series, Ok?. Throw your ideas into the mix … especially ideas about how the brain can improve communication in today’s workplace.

If you were to give me one piece of advice for another similar interview, based on what you know about the brain, about leadership, and about cranks in the workplace, what would you tell me from your experience?

Listen here to our audio version of this interview - it takes a minute or two to load ... and do be sure to add your comments and valuable additions to our discussion. That's what makes blogging fun - and we'll all learn more cause your here! Happy listening.

Ellen, thanks so much for an exciting interview. Your readers can hear our conversation and join in the fun sometime in mid-December, probably the week before Christmas. I hope they enjoy it as much as we did.

Thanks again...

Wayne

Thanks for dropping by Wayne, that was the most fun I've had in a back-and-forth for a long while! I also plan to do a few posts when I finish your 2003 book, "A Philistine's Journal - An Average Guy Tackles the Classics." Couldn't believe how fast the time flew:-) Ellen

I've just got round to hearing your podcast. Having read so much of your writing, it was stimulating to hear your voice. The interview helped me to round out some of your ideas. My overwhelming impression is that your humanity and humility shined through like a beacon. Your insight about culture being an artefact was interesting & your point about creating a safe space for people to develop them self came through clearly. The time did run v.quickly. I sensed that you could easily have spoken for half a day :). Crankiness and brain based approaches obviously create great synergy :)

Galba, thanks for your kind words. I so agree -- these topics could take a day. It would be fun to gather a think tank to apply the ideas at deeper levels:-).

Hello Ellen:

What would stand in the way of such a session? How could we overcome it?

Wow -- great question galba. Any ideas? We are headed off to teach MITA tactics to leaders in Ireland at the moment -- let's keep thinking, Ok? Do you have any ideas?
