When was the last time you triggered a new project idea that others jumped on with enthusiasm? Smart skills for self starting help you to open the morning with a smile, by adding an extra shot of serotonin to add zip to your day, and to reduce any cortisol chemicals that slogs mental pathways of non starters.
Serotonin opens your mind's eye to see more blessing than barriers, more possibilities than problems, and golden threads of opportunity that build from wherever you left off yesterday – even if that was a place of failure.
Self starters launch their day from themes of success in ways that echo back with positive actions toward that goal throughout the entire day. They start with a sense that today is here only once, and that makes your hours far too precious to waste with no start at all.
Serotonin tips that fuel smart skills for self starters:
1. Light a vanilla candle near where you work because the scent of vanilla is often a serotonin builder.
2. Go for a brief walk or run on the spot with this question in mind… “What great today offering would launch a new project in the direction of brilliant results?” The brain takes 21% of the total body supply of oxygen, and when you add to that oxygen through movement, you also add to serotonin for creative insights.
3. Laugh at just about anything – especially at yourself and at your day. Laughter releases enzymes, increases learning acumen, and adds serotonin. It magically rubs off on others too, so that you build collective well-being and encourage other self starters at work.
4. Sip coffee while you work or take a small bit of dark chocolate. I say small, because too much sugar will actually work against serotonin and could dip you into cortisol which slows down your brain.
5. Visualize the results you expect to attain, and your brain will use the positive projection – visible on the back screen of your mind - to produce the serotonin that takes you there.
Ready … set … go! You have just joined the ranks of self starters, who tend to develop and use more of their mental resources to trigger the kind of innovations that others only crave.

What a great reminder this is if we feel oursleves slipping into days full of too much cortisol. I have my candle lit and am sipping some gret Chai tea! And, I see good results coming forth.
