Have you noticed that when people enter a room… or a project … looking for the best … that they often get the best out of it…? I’ve seen this repeatedly in university courses I teach ... and in brain based projects I lead. It shouldn’t surprise us … but if often does… and so we forget to expect the best … especially when the chips are down.
It turns out that your brain works in your favor … when you stay on a track for the best out of life! Here's how it works inside your brain.... Look for the
positive … and your brain…
1. Produces more serotonin hormones which increase your pleasure for what you do at work … and will attract other upbeat people to you
2. Stores positive experiences into your working memory and in this way blocks cortisol ... day after day … until a penchant for the best … eventually finds its way into your basal ganglia ...where it becomes more of a habit to win.
3. Uses actions and images to fuel a higher-performance mind. So when you simply tackle exciting new adventures … because of images and actions ... you learn more from others … who use their multiple intelligences in different ways than you.
4. Uses curiosity to find new neuron pathways into innovation … and just about every other invention possibility in your field… that could improve another day
Now for the ringer! These proclivities are useful to you … only if you act in ways that unleash your brain's innate potential ...to get you the best! So what can you do today ... to improve your chances for more positive experiences and quality outcomes? Here are a few starters to act more with the brain in mind...
1. Be good to you – believe it or not -- the brain uses that practice to generate the chemical... serotonin and leads to success that most people crave.
2. Do even more of what you enjoy most … because the brain uses who you are ... your unique mix of intelligences ... and experiences you have had … to develop the innovative results that move you forward.
3. Shadow others who tend to have more “luck” come their way and simply try out a few of their approaches at work. If they smile more … do the same …. If they respect others more … try that …. If they make peace between two arrogant people … try their conflict management tactic. A new research study shows that the best way to become what you'd like others to see in you ... is to observe and then simply do the same thing you see a person you respect do....
4. Start your day with a question to spark genuine curiosity from your situation. To do so grows new dendrite brain connectors that work in your favor. Ask what if… and then add the best outcome you can imagine from whatever situation you are in at the moment. With that spark alone … your brain is built to do the rest…. Then … enjoy your day … while your own brain brings you the best.
When it comes to the human brain's extravagant potential ... what really counts is what you do ... not so much what is done to you.... Could that fact improve your day...?
