Forget that name again? Did you drive home without the milk you tried to remember? How many times did you look for things you put away “somewhere” and failed to find this week? Working memory … or your brain’s capacity to hold onto vital facts while you noodle them to retrieve just the right piece at the moment you need it.
Recent research shows how we can grow the size of our working memory …
They’d thought until now that we could not increase the short term storage space, which holds about 7 bits, or 4 bobs of information. Working memory … on the other hand.. often holds only one item at a time. Problems that stem from the small size of a person’s working memory … include focus problems, and inattentiveness related to ADHD.
Hopeful new research by Sadie Dingfelder at Monitor on Psychology shows that tests used to measure focal attention can double as practice activities to help persons with ADHD or focus problems.
Participants can improve their working memory and possibly increase their ability to focus for longer times and until a project is completed…. Seems like a good idea for my brain…. How about yours…?
