How will you decide what is right at work today… and how will you prevent what is wrong? Maybe we each have one small offering that would repair our world morally. It’s a question on my mind lately … as I think more about how morality relates to complex functions in the brain and in my business. ![]()
Einstein said, “Morality is not a fixed and stark system. It is a task never finished, something that is always present to guide our judgment and inspire our conduct…” Do you see morality as Einstein did ... and if so ... how do you rewire your brain for moral plasticity?
Here are two moral offerings I’ve been thinking about today:
The first one relates to an organ that could save my life…. It seems China is leading the world in transplants currently … and I was excited to hear that news because I have spent much time in China ... and really love that country. Then came the clincher … it's reported that more prisoners are being killed daily in China ... than in the entire rest of the world ... and their organs taken to supply rich foreigners for an organs at $80,000 each.
That’s where a moral decision comes in for me… If that is true … and I hope it is not … then I must die first rather than accept an organ in China while this practice is in place. For the same reason... I'd have to make the hard choice to let precious relatives die … before I allow any such organs to be used to save a life through taking one. Full stop … it’s a hard choice for those offered an organ that would mean life or death ... and yet it's a vital choice for those interesting in helping a return of morals to our business world … as many of us do…. So I’ve made my choice ahead today.
The second moral issue is a smaller one … but still relevant to my day. Several places for which I write ... encourage higher traffic – and I also see the value in supporting solid traffic to a site ... in moral and community-building ways. In fact I love the communication challenge ... and the community I’ve met humbles me daily! So what is the problem…? I refuse to write about salacious topics simply to draw more traffic or pings … and while I hope to stay current … some topics out there ... carry less moral support to my site. For that reason … I hope to choose less traffic and higher moral content that draws from other leaders who want the same.
That’s my shot at a more moral day from my business … all because moral living seems less about government and business immorality seems less about Enron... and more about morals that my business practices model today…. So I'm hoping for insight to say no to immediate rewards and yes to people who help to rewire our brains to respect all humanity -through more ethical behavior. My choices are not always the best ones … but these two moral choices make up my offering today…. What is your moral offering…?

Hello Ellen:
This is a very deep insight. It breaks morality down into some very concrete individual steps and choices. your light shines brightly and will always be attractive for as long as you keep your focus.
