Did you know that 2 key parts of your brain run like a digital computer?
Two areas of the human brain involved in your most critical mental acumen… work much like a digital computer ...researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder found. ![]()
Psychology Professor Randall O'Reilly at the
Check out the details in Oct. 6 edition of Journal Science … where O'Reilly showed how the prefrontal cortex and basal ganglia operate more like a digital computer than we thought.
So much for the dismissed comparisons between brains and computers … and all the more reason to check back at Brain Based Business to watch this exciting new development.
All tech experts already know ... digital computers convert electrical signals into binary "on and off states" and how they easily manipulate on and off through switches. It seems that the same is true within the brain.
Researchers found that neurons in the prefrontal cortex have two states … active or inactive -- and that the basal ganglia is essentially a big switch that allows you to dynamically turn on and off different parts of your prefrontal cortex.
O'Reilly added that overall… the brain operates as a social network more than a digital computer … because of neurons communicating to allow learning … creation… and memory.
What’s important to hold onto in this study is the fact that …computer-like features of the prefrontal cortex broaden these social networks ... and make your more flexible in processing innovation and symbolic information. That’s the part of the study that most interested me and draws me back for more! How about you…?
