Are you addicted to the Internet so that other areas of your life suffer? Stanford University Medical Center researchers surveyed people by telephone, and found that more than one out of eight Americans showed addictive signs of Internet use.
They discovered that 68.9 percent were regular Internet users, and that:![]()
13.7 % seemed unable to stay away from the Internet for a few days at a time.
12.4 % stayed online longer than expected often.
12.3 % admitted a need to cut back on their Internet use.
8.7 % hid some Internet use from people around them.
8.2 % saw the Internet as a way to escape problems or a bad mood.
5.9 % felt their relationships suffered as a result of excessive Internet use.
My main concern with the findings are this … It may be unhealthy to use the Internet to escape bad moods or problems, as that create addictive associations in a person’s brain. Nuff said… I am checking off-line to golf! How about you?
