In a terrific post today over at … Beyond Madison Avenue … I was challenged to ask… What makes people diverse anyway?
Quoting from an article from Huffington Post by Walter Benn Michaels, a professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago … and met a challenge for “a new kind of equity” from True.![]()
In Michaels’ words….
"Diversity is useful. But what it's mainly useful for is selling people a bill of goods, the main one being the idea that as becomes an increasingly unequal society, everything will be OK if all the rich people - like the stars of TV shows and the executives on
What do you think? Maybe these words describe why so many people today claim that ... "Diversity Training Stinks"
Michaels added …. "Right now America
According to BMA … “attributing diversity to the color of one's skin is a deeply flawed practice.”
The reason? Because … “what makes a group of people ‘diverse’ is the cultural and social background of the people in the group, not their skin color.”
What “makes people truly unique is their brains, not their skin color.” Wow! Think of where any community could go when we tap into more people’s brilliant minds for answers that promote peace and goodwill …. It’s time to let go of the fixation we have with more shallow human differences -- skin color… and let’s capitalize on minds that offer unique perspectives for the future. Does that inspire you as it does me? What do you think?

wow! a response from a real live doctor!
I've just always thought it was so counterproductive (and borderline racist) for societies and organizations to make race the criteria for diversity.
Diversity comes from a multiplicity of viewpoints and perspectives, not from ensuring there's always a box of five color crayons handy.
Thanks for your response!!!
