For years … I disliked going to business functions alone … which welcomed mostly couples. Then I began to imagine the adventure that came with getting to know new people all around me .... Soon... I began to look forward to a new experience at every table I joined…. Surprisingly… it no longer mattered with whom I sat … because that image I'd created ... gave me courage and a sense of wonder. In fact my newfound curiosity often caused a mental buzz and I found myself attending more functions with anticipation.
Did you know that you can steer activity in your brain for more business benefits … and more benefits in general ... for that matter? It’s quite miraculous if you consider that 200 kinds of cells with trillions of neural signals actively communicate in your cortex… and you can have a part in how it happens. That means you can turn a miserable day into a memorable one … or you can heal from harsh words … or use your talent … even if it’s not valued by a cranky boss…. How does it happen?
It’s as simple as imagining a good day for yourself… see the details you enjoy in a good day and then begin to act as if it already happened. If it sounds almost too easy … you may not be considering the part your brain itself play … when you give it half a change. Brain chemicals seep through clefts in your brain and become electrical impulses which impact what you learn. These chemicals also impact your responses to every situation you meet…. Your response to the smile by one co-worker … the sarcastic remark from another … are all influenced by brain chemicals called neurotransmitters ….
Images of a satisfactory day … or memories of a pleasant event … can alter these biochemical messengers … which in turn … generate an openness to a far better day at work. They act as stimuli to excite neurons or as inhibitors to suppress them… and that shift in brain activity creates a shift in your well-being and mental effectiveness. What images might add to your workday…?
