Looking back over the business day you designed today….
Did you benefit from multiple intelligences as a competitive edge today at work? Would others around you today say you drew out their intelligences? Think back over your day with me ... and I’ll take an honest stab at showing how I used my many ways of solving problems in a day: ![]()
1. I’m listening to music as I type this – matter of fact … it’s Vivaldi – and it’s a great way to work and think in the quiet of an evening. That’s my musical intelligence being stretched here at work … and helping me out both at the same time.
2. Today my church wrote and asked for a reflective piece to add to a new member’s book and I used my intrapersonal intelligence to write a piece called… “What’s It Like Where the Spirit of God is Celebrated?” Taking a wee break for reflection made my whole a bit spunkier.
3. When I saw rain in the forecast this morning … I jumped in the car and went out to golf 9 holes ahead of the downpour. It got my kinesthetic intelligence up and rolling and it also tells you why I am still at work at 9:00 PM. Worth it? Nuff said!
4. Since I am have two city leaders over for lunch tomorrow I planned a menu and then bought the ingredients. My spatial intelligence inspired me to plan fun and colorful foods that will compliment my homemade corn chowder and hot Italian bread.
5. Linguistic Intelligence helped me to write a flier for a university conference I am giving on MITA brain based strategies. The flier gave the university and business community a sense of what their takeaways will be and it also motivated their interest ahead.
6. Naturalistic intelligence came alive to inspire me today – when a Monarch Butterfly danced and played in front of my golf swing …. Not surprisingly … the fact that I stopped for a few minutes to take in the huge butterfly dance … was likely the reason my next tee shot was a best for the entire game.
7. Tomorrow is an extremely busy day for me and I planned it well in advance so that I could enjoy it and get more from each busy event. By using my mathematical intelligence I organized today … sent out invoices and squeaked out time and space to plan tomorrow. That way my busy day will go without a hitch, and I can still enjoy a relaxed lunch with leaders here at the
8. One more … let’s see … that would be interpersonal intelligence. I spent considerable time in communication with our senior VP … Dr. Robyn McMaster. We are deeply collaborative and our policy is to make no major moves without consensus. Today… we discussed a few major shifts we may soon make and agreed that the time is not quite right yet. The session left both of us with huge confidence for directions we are taking in this work however, and was a wonderful reminder of the joys of interpersonal exchanges at that level!
That was my day in the form of an EIGHT CYLINDER DESIGN. How many cylinders did your business day design?
