I’m still intrigued by GL’s question… “How can we wire ourselves to be able to react to chances that come up that truly are life changing events?” So I decided to look at the experts for further clues…. Not only clues to spark new business deals … but tips to jump on them when they land….
Engineering expert… Karl Sigman at Columbia University, computes the odds that coincidences will happen. His first-person stories of coincidence from writers, filmmakers, identical twins, and from his own life tell a story of mysteries and the human mind’s capability to rewire for them.
What’s your story about the likelihood that certain things will happen, including coincidence? Dr. Siegman uses the science of computing probabilities … called probability theory, to show how mathematics can help us to understand coincidence.
Here’s another example of how mathematics intelligence can lead to deeper understanding of topics seemingly related to math…. Dr. Sigman explains that the likelihood of coincidences happening is actually far higher than most people tend to believe.
He tells about the "Birthday Problem" a story statisticians often use as an example of the high probability of coincidence. It works this way … bring together 23 people and you already add a 50% probability that two of them will share the exact same birthday.
According to Dr. Sigman … no coincidences are meaningless … yet he shows how they do hold rational explanations … in terms of mathematic probabilities. What do you think? Any coincidence you’ve met recently that would lead you to take the risk for change and a wider vision?
