5 Tips to Calm Your Brain for its Evening Shift

Ready to relax… reflect … and maybe play a bit …?  Now that you’ve boosted your brain before lunch  and surged it for the afternoon’s business … here are 5 tips to reboot your brain for its evening shift….

1.  
Reflect on your workday by jotting down… one thing that went really well today because of a goofy joke you told to lighten up a enchanted_evening.jpgsituation… an inspiration you found or gave …  or a successful solution you added to address a challenge. Give yourself 5 points for one thing you observed that went well for you today!

2.  Eat moderately in the evening and
build on the serotonin that comes from seeing what went well. Laugh with a friend… play with a child … or relax with a good book. Enjoy your favorite music while you read the paper or the next chapter of a book you started and then found little time to finish. Let go of work … take time for you … and your brain will rewire for better business.  Give yourself 5 for taking time to relax and play.

3. Set your brain up for an exciting new insights to help your next day? Ask yourself
a “what if… kind of question … one that could add inspiration at work tomorrow.  Expect your brain to search and find some new insight overnight, from its capacity to rewire and to teach you new approaches to success while you sleep in delta brain waves … a place where enlightenment often happens. Give yourself 5 points for one question you raised … that could harness a new sense of wonder at work tomorrow.

4. Maximize the chances of restful sleep cycle tonight … by avoiding additives or fats before bedtime…. Warm milk works wonders with the brain, and a little honey added gives it an even better taste.  Make sure that glass of wine you had after dinner, metabolizes for at least one hour before you sleep and
drink lots of water. Any one of these aids to good sleep gets you a fat five points!

5. Sleep at about the same times nightly for best results. Your brain will
decrease cortisol overnight … and release melatonin … as well as increase  growth hormones … with relaxed conditions. A good night’s sleep is at least 7 and 1/2 hrs. ... if you want to wake up with your brain rewired for success … and ready to roll. Take 5 point for hitting the hay within the hour you turned out lights on the previous night.

I will say painting is one of my biggest loves; it is my way of relaxing and chilling out. I find anything can inspire me anytime, anywhere, noting things down on scrapes of paper all the time with little drawings to help if and when I come back to it.
