Doing the same old things today … in the same old ways …? Suffer from Hebbian Learning … where your brain rewires for the rut. It doesn’t need to be that way. You don’t need to let boring routines take you down or burn you out…. 
1. Question yourself … How am I smart? That question differs from the “How smart am I?” question – which expects an IQ score and rarely relates to life itself. To find your answer … first scan your main items in the How are you Smart Survey. Jot down one thing you are good at or like to do most…. For instance I like music so I put a star beside item 19.
On another day… I’d likely have chosen another item … simply because we all possess at least 8 different intelligences … in a unique mix…. On a typical day I like to use all 8… but one or two tend to stand out at a time. Which one describes you most today…?
2. Target one innovative project at work you’d like to start or complete today. For instance, I’ve decided to go after a new idea that I can enter into an invited contest … to show doable brain based business strategies …. For my project … I’ll I need new ideas … that work especially well to get the quality results I’m looking for. With that in mind… my target is… start a brain based business blog … that could hold its own in a contest.
3. Expect quality outcomes … by listing and visualizing exactly what those look like. The brain reaches higher for what you visualize. I tend to list 5 traits I want to see at the end of my work so that I know what I am going after. These may relate to… color … style … size … texture … shape … and usefulness….
4. Move your mental resources into action…. You likely stirred up several hidden or unused intelligences … when you checked your strengths or talents … in the intelligence survey. You’d likely agree that it is not much use for high scores in intelligence … unless that acumen benefits you more at work. I plan to draw from 5 different intelligences today to help my project along….
Through verbal-linguistic … I’ll free-write for 10 minutes for new ideas that work. Drawing from visual-spatial - I’ll add a digital photograph to enhance a point. Then my logical-mathematical smarts will help me organize ideas into a creative outline. Let’s see … musical intelligence will help … if I listen to NPR’s classical music while I write. Oh … and intrapersonal adds more meat because I plan to glance back through personal journal notes to gather brain based tactics that worked best …. Finally…
5. Reflect which usually mean simply plan the next small step forward. It’s a …”Where to from here?” thing. Once you plan the second small step your project takes on a life of its own.
