To know yourself better is to play better golf ... where your intrapersonal intelligence … unleashes your unique strengths. That ancient Greek saying…Know thyself… inscribed in golden letters over the entrance to Apollo’s temple in Delphi … inspired leaders then and inspires golfers today ... who use Howard Gardner's discovery of Intrapersonal Intelligence to their advantage. People strong in this introspective-like intelligence … tend to develop their weaker areas … with the same kind of humility that allows them to prosper from strenghts ... simply from knowing and optimizing who they are and how they operate.
Intrapersonal intelligence can also improve your personal handicap in golf. Are you a fair to middlin’ player … or do you chop up a course like an anxious woodchuck? Either way you can take on habits of the pros through a few intrapersonal tips to improve your game:
1. Take time out … alone … to cure that flying elbow through going to a spa or exercise to relaxes your chest and shoulders…
2. Practice hillside lies…where you take a little more club it it’s uphill… and a little less if it’s downhill.
3. Increase your tee distance by teeing the ball higher and keep your upper body behind the ball so your driver strikes the ball on an up-swing
Identify one problem at a time and try a few solutions out on the course or the driving range by yourself … Research a solution on the Internet and jot down one new tactic to try for each game. Focus on your unique abilities so that you get the best from that often unused or hidden intrapersonal intelligence when you next team with other golfers.
Don’t forget to track your progress through a few notes, to show scores compared or handicap improvements. Intrapersonal IQ is developed simply by practicing your swings and tracking your improvement. Develop it on your own… and then watch it give you new tools for a winning game with others.
