Tips to Keep the Best Employees

In Steve Ruciniski’s post… Keeping Your Best Employees: Seven Tips for Retaining Talent  he features Jose Bandujo, president of Bandujo Donker & Brothers, a New York City advertising agency. Jose suggests… "You need to really listen to what your employees want, keep your promises, take care of the little things and create an environment of trust.,"  What a great quote for leaders everywhere.

I was especially interested in Jose’s tips… inter.jpg

1. Keep things in perspective.

2. Create a comfortable, inspirational environment and watch the ideas flow.

3. Encourage and support everyone's ideas.
4. Host regular social events that promote unity.
5. Show employees that you respect that they have a life.

6. Subsidizing professional advancement courses builds a loyal employee and a stronger firm
7. And just relax, would you please!

For Jose relaxing means to laugh a lot – and who’d protest that one! But I saw success in all seven and wish I could work in such a firm – or at least have lunch with those who do!

I’d like to see an emphasis on drawing people into the process more too. Have employees tell you what top perspectives are to them. Ask their ideas about their best working conditions. Show how you value opposing views so that a few more come out – without fear of attack. Invite employees to host social events. And YES… laugh with them daily.

Would you add any tips to Jose’s list?

I would add to Jose's list to not only encourage and support employees' ideas, but also reward employee inventiveness. Many employees actually develop patents and organizations need to go beyond encouraging to inspire this kind of productivity!

That would certainly keep the creative flowing. Thanks Robyn... it seems that keys in on the area that fold so many businesses today - and keep workers frustrated. has my vote too!

how can we decrease the bouroukrasy of the organizations?

Somayeh, thanks for stopping by. Great question, and I am not sure we can decrease the bureaucracy. We can though, take risks for change that inspire people past the status quo. That's what we do at the MITA International Brain Based Center - and it is fun to see the changes that result. Do you work with change too?

wonder if we are related....
