Have you ever made it a point to hear all the many sounds on the golf course? Have you listened to the splash of a ball diving into a water hazard? Ok… maybe that was a bad example to make my point … especially if it was your ball hitting the drink.
Still… music is nature’s handiwork and could be yours too… mostly because we now know more about how the brain uses the cadence of sounds to improve skills such as golf. Music moves your brain waves and it’s sounds in nature can increase serotonin, a mental hormone for well-being. ![]()
But what about the playful ping of a tee shot that promises to deliver? Have you also heard birds chirping … squirrels rustling in the trees … winds whistling in the leaves … or whirring of wheels along the trails? These sounds in nature and in music help your golf game in several ways.
Musical intelligence, is just what it claims… an ability to work with sounds and cadence … in ways that can help you relax. Have you ever considered how your golf swing could move in new improved ways … more in tune with inspired rhythms?
Here are three tips to use musical intelligence for better golfing. Try any one….
1. Sing or play music you especially enjoy as you drive to your next golf game, and then allow that music to be part of your game through humming a favorite tune or tapping your foot to the last song heard.
2. Listen to nature’s music as you move on the fairway from one hit to your next. Enjoy the opportunity to be part of this natural orchestra found only on golf courses and allow the click of your swing to fit into it’s marvelous cadence.
3. Distinguish sounds that calm and increase your sense of adventure from sounds that increase your anxiety. Deliberately focus on sounds or tunes that work well and increase your creativity ... and avoid those sounds that create dissonence or add frustration to your game.
Regardless of your training or musical skill, you’ll benefit with possibilities never thought possible, when you allow your musical intelligence to convert brain waves into skillful golf shots.
