Ask some people … "Hey, anything new happening?" ... and they look at you as if you’ve just invited them to move a graveyard to the other side of the street. Researchers would say these people are not taking advantage of their brain’s natural love for novelty ... the kind that's transformed into winning actions. Do you?
It’s not surprising to learn that the brain seeks for novelty to turn it into success. Your brain’s novelty center –is called the substantia
nigra/ventral tegmental area … a mouthful … nicknamed SN/VTA. This novelty area is activated by new stimulus. In other words get out of your rut and look for new settings, systems or schedules. It pays good dividends to a firm’s profitability. That’s because the ripple effect is an emotional arousal or a brain based incentive to act with a competitive edge. Is it happening where you work?
The SN/VTA impacts new ideas or change at work because it is directly linked to the hippocampus, or the brain's learning center, and the amygdala, where emotional information is processed and prepared for action that could win your firm a novel deal. That’s brain based business at its best and while some are more prepared than others to take advantage of their brain’s novelty center … new stimuli add the zest most human brain need to improve a company’s bottom line.
Hey, anything new happening with you...?

Have you ever taken note that the folks who take creative or unconventional approaches are not necessarily what we'd term as "business minded." Why is it that when we think of a person with a business mind, we think of logic and money? Just think what would happen if the "business mind" were given a "shot of" novelty!
