It happens everyday. Successful leaders expect designs they can clearly describe and imagine long before they achieve these! Expectation is a unique mental skill … and it starts with ourselves rather than with external resources or opportunity’s knock.
Mark Twain was speaking with the brain in mind when he wrote: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ![]()
Rather than blame others over us … who fail to give us clear expectations … why not simply create clear expectations. List three targets that a successful person in your shoes might go after and then set out to achieve them.
In successful organizations… managers often collaborate with workers to create a list of expectations they can both live with …. Yet sometimes you are on your own….
Either way … people who achieve more success in a day can usually describe what the performance or end product looks like long before it arrives…. They have it projected in focused images on screens within their mind and in this way they separate themselves from victims waiting for others to offer them opportunities.
They also know quality design when they get it… and so do the rest of us. How about you … what design are you after today?
