Last week I got an earful from one worker at a manufacturing plant
and another earful from his fellow worker … as a two year conflict between two managers rages on. Eventually cortisol shuts down a person’s ability to communicate peacefully. Nobody seems to remember specifically what started this battle … but we all remember the cynical bantering that lacked respect for managers on both sides. Human brains wire for peaceful solutions by the way people:
1. use words without blame but with mutual solutions in mind
2. wield tone in ways that welcome and learn from opposing views
3. create images for peace rather than emphasize options for battle
Have you noticed persistent conflicts launch through disrespectful back-and-forths where you work …? This behavior stirs up cortisol, a hormone that promotes war. Look at ways the brain processed words at this firm and you see the same ancient hatred that hardens people in the
Gruesome battles are merely extensions of a brain’s prior conditioning which wires for deep seated hatreds … often escalated on both sides … and simply launched into battle by the side whose guns of war pound first. Unfortunately hatred is hardened even more through wars that result from words, tone and images we create at work today. How are you re-patterning your brain for well-being?
