In an inspiring post… John Jantsch reminded readers today … that Passion is a Wonderful Branding Tool. Like John claims… I too love what I do, and just as with John … my work sometimes doesn't feel like work.
I was glad to see John’s honesty that helped me also relate to how … “Every now and then my monkey mind drags me back into whining and worrying about all the little things I can't control and then I hate my job - just in case you wondered.”
So what’s the difference in work that burns with passion and work that burns us out? John’s point that “Passion is contagious and one of the greatest branding tools you can employ,” made me question what is it about “passion” that makes it work so well to fire the brain and fire business at the same time.
While I agree with John’s suggestion that … “passion's not a skill set, it's a mind set,” I don’t agree “that you cannot learn passion…” You learn passion … as I see it … when you draw on your own strengths and interests and make these a daily part of your work or business. That's because the brain reconnects dendrite brain cells ... based on what you do. Let me explain what I mean from four passionate people I know that come immediately to mind:
Passion comes from making money, for my friend Geoff Moore in Canada
Passion for changing lives, for another friend, John Wells in Ireland, and so he uses his amazing home and his hosting talents to have people around for fun and meaningful conversations.
Passion comes in the form of brighter visions for Online learning circles from Dr. Cindy Knott... the Director of Academic Affairs ... at the University of Phoenix Online, College of Education.
Passion for photography comes for my close friend and senior VP … Robyn McMaster… at the MITA International Brain Based Center through photography and that frames our web site … in wonderful shots of people we work with all other the world.
Your brain rewires daily because of what you do, and passion is a state learned by your brain, when you simply use what you are good at to move your business forward. Make money… change lives… or take photographs at work and your brain will grow dendrite brain cells for living with passion that fires what you do well.
What could distinguish your business career and increase your passion for work at the same time…? That’s the place to start to regain passion … and it means simply linking who you are to what you do at work….

What an amazing article! How could no one comment on this?
As an advocate for pursuing the passion, I find the studies of passion and the human mind very interesting, especially the theory that the more you do something "passionately," the more the brain will rewire itself to move forward.
As a former corporate america employee who was NOT passionate about what I did, the lack of passion in my job carried over to a lack of passion in other things as well. Once I left to pursue my passion though, my life has seen passion carry over to the other things I've done.
Could this be a rewiring of the brain? Interesting stuff...
