What's the Most Commonly Used Noun? That was the question posed by the Associated Press in
If you believe people obsess over time … the Oxford English dictionary supports that notion with evidence to back it up. WLTX-TV Columbia, SC reported that “Compilers of the dictionary studied more than a billion words from the 21st century and found the word "time" is the most commonly used noun in the English language. The words "year," "day," and "week" are all in the top 20.”
This research also tells us that people aren't having much fun these days either. “The word ‘work’ is at number 16 on the list, but ‘play’ and ‘rest’ don't even rate.
Are you surprised by the fact that, “’Problems’ is at 24, yet ‘solutions’ is nowhere in sight.” Or are you in the least jarred to hear that … “The word ‘war’ is at 49. It trumps ‘peace,’ which doesn't even appear in the top 100.”
What does this say about our current conversations…? Do you think bloggers will show more balance or raise our awareness of fun…play…solutions…and peace…?
